Battery pack internal insulation error
• Turn off and lock the interlock loop control switch S229 . Toggle U15 off and on. Read Insulation Error Status with SDP3. • If internal insulation error is still confirmed dismount the battery pack (E83) according to instruction in multi. • Check the silica bags and filter, if clearly damaged, change the filter and perform the following steps. • Moisture might be the cause of the insulation error. Open the big service lid and perform a visual inspection of corrosion and moisture in the pack. • If very damp but no severely corroded try to dry out the moisture over night and then mount the battery pack according to instruction in multi • Read Insulation Error Status with SDP3. If the DTC is not set, test drive the vehicle. • If the DTC returns change the battery pack (E83) • If the filter was not damaged perform with the following steps. NOTE! Replacing of battery components and fault tracing from here on is considered an electrical work and shall only be performed by Scania certified personnel. Vehicle shall be made safe according to electrical work procedure. • Disconnect the maintenance disconnector and all the VCB cables to the BDU according to instruction in multi • Perform the following measurements and if low insulation is measured change the suggested part. • Brown cable side connector to BDU -> change the battery pack according to instruction in multi • White cable side connector to BDU -> change the battery pack according to instruction in multi • Signal cable side connector to BDU -> change the IBU according to instruction in multi • Change the BDU according to instruction in multi
What you'll see
No driver-visible symptom recorded.
System reaction
Single insulation fault Value: Reaction: <400kΩ Amber warning in ICL <100kΩ battery pack safe shut down within 1s Double insulation fault Value: Reaction: <400kΩ Amber warning in ICL <100kΩ battery pack safe shut down within 1s <1Ω battery pack fuse blown
Diagnostic depth
Detected by battery pack insulation fault diagnostics and reported to BMU (E81). Appropriate DTC set by BMU. Detection possible through manual measurement or through SDP3 read out.
• Chafing on VCB cables • Internal faults in VCB components • Corrosion build up due to high moisture in the pack due to not following service instructions.
