Steering Angle Sensor : Signal locked to a too high value
Check if sensor is calibrated correctly: with engine running, set steered wheels in straight position, read steering angle via diagnosis, check if the value of steering angle is 0 +- 10 degrees. If value is not OK, recalibrate the sensor. While engine still running, mark zero position on the steering wheel and turn it in both directions by one turn (360 degrees). Check the steering angle values via diagnosis (+-360 degrees). If values are not OK, check the mounting and the drive of the sensor. If fault is still active check steering system for specified parts (e.g. steering lever). With engine running turn the steering wheel to its end positions, read the steering angle values via diagnosis and check if the read values are within the allowed range defined in the dataset. If fault is still active, replace the steering angle sensor.
What you'll see
No driver-visible symptom recorded.
System reaction
ESP control off. ESP Warning Lamp.
Diagnostic depth
The failure is reported if the sensor signal exceeds the maximum possible range of the steering wheel angle set by EoL-parameter.
Sensor is calibrated or mounted wrongly or steering system does not correspond to the vehicle specification (wrong steering gearbox or steering gear arm) or wrong maximum parameter in dataset or steering wheel angle sensor damaged.
