CVU::CPS timeout in CAN communication

â–¶ How to fix

Check wiring and connectors between the ESTA::ECU (E1003) and ESTA::CVU::CPS (T1001). The battery should be disconnected during measurements. Check if CPS (T1001) has fysical damage, if so replace it. If no obvious error use procedure below to find where the error is. If the below procedure don't indicate errors on connectors and cable harness; replace CPS(T1001). 1. Check CAN cable harness and connectors: - Disconnect harness connectors on both ECU side, and CPS side. - Measure the resistance in the cable between pins E1003::A35 and T1001::4. It should be approximately 0 ohm (no interruption or bad connection). - Measure the resistance in the cable between pins E1003::A38 and T1001::2. It should be approximately 0 ohm (no interruption or bad connection). - Measure the resistance in the cable between each single wire. It should be infinite (no short circuit). - Visually inspect the isolation along the entire cable length, for abrasion damage that could lead to a short circuit against frame or similar. 2. Check power supply to CPS: - Disconnect harness connectors on both ECU side, and CPS side. - Measure the resistance in the cable between pins E1003::A3 and T1001::5. It should be approximately 0 ohm (no interruption or bad connection). - Measure the resistance in the cable between pins E1003::A1 and T1001::3. It should be approximately 0 ohm (no interruption or bad connection). - Measure the resistance in the cable between each single wire. It should be infinite (no short circuit). - Visually inspect the isolation along the entire cable length, for abrasion damage that could lead to a short circuit against frame or similar. 3. Check CPS connector housing and sensor: - Disconnect harness connector only on ECU side, and measure the resistance between pins E1003::A35 and E1003::A38. It should be approximately 120 ohm (termination resistor in CPS). - If OK ==> Reconnect ECU connector - If NOK ==> Replace CPS connector housing, and reperform measurement (3) 4. Check ECU: - Disconnect harness connector only on CPS side, and measure the resistance between pins T1001::2 and T1001::4. It should be approximately 120 ohm (termination resistor in ECU). Verify that the issue is solved by performing a Diagnostic SelfTest (requires Parking Brake to be applied) - If the root cause fault has been fixed, this DTC will be set passive.

What you'll see

No driver-visible symptom recorded.

System reaction

Red Steer tag axle fault warn ESTA in released or fixed mode

Detection

Communication error. Communication with the CVU::CPS node interrupted. Component code T1001.

Possible cause

• Open circuit or short circuit on the ESTA::CVU::CPS CAN bus • CPS unit has no power supply • Faulty CPS unit
