Ambient temperature

β–Ά How to fix

Check the signal from the sensor (connected to the coordinator).See if there is any visible fault on the ambient temperature sensor, wiring or connectors.See if there are any visible faults that could the decrease capacity of the engine cooling. For engines with NOx-control software, confirmation of repair requires:A boost temperature above 3 degC and a difference between the boost temperature and the ambient temperature less than 10 degC for 10 s four driving cycles in a row.-Take the vehicle into β€˜DTC invalidation mode’ with SDP3 or turn key on/off four times with more than 10 sec between. If the difference between the temperatures are less than 10 degC for 10 s the fault is remedied, and the DTC becomes passive.

What you'll see

No driver-visible symptom recorded.

System reaction

For engines with NOx-control software, this DTC is classed as a type D failure. See action below.

Diagnostic depth

Detection

The boost temperature is significantly higher than the ambient temperature in driving cases where these should be approximately equal. The ambient temperature sensor signal received from the coordinator via CAN is not plausible. The test will only run if:- The vehicle speed is above approximately 20 km/h.- The ambient temperature is below approximately 36 degC (For engines with NOx control software).- The ambient temperature is below approximately 6 degC (For engines without NOx control software).

Possible cause

-The ambient temperature sensor shows to low temperature.-The boost temperature sensor shows to high temperature.-The intercooler has decreased cooling capacity.
