False neutral indication when engine control
This fault is difficult to detect but can potenially lead to an unsafe behaviour. The trouble code can therefore be set falsely. To minimize the effects when set falsely this fault code can heal during driving. In this case the system will return to normal operation mode again. Check the position sensor for the length stroke and also check the gearbox mechanically.
What you'll see
No driver-visible symptom recorded.
System reaction
Once the fault is detected the system will stop the engine control and the vehicle stops to accelerate. The system reaction will be locked gear and the clutch will not automatically close at standstill if the driver doesn't press the accelerator pedal.
Diagnostic depth
The automatic gearbox has falsely recieved neutral indication during a gear change and starts to synchronize the engine's speed for the next gear. This false neutral indication will be detected if the vehicle accelerates during one second corresponding to the engine speed. This relationship between the speeds indicates that a gear is engaged in the gearbox. Once detected this trouble code will be set.
The automatic gearbox has falsely recieved neutral indication during a gear even though a gear is engaged in the gearbox. During driving this might lead to an unwanted acceleration of the vehicle during a gear change. This may feel uncomfortable, if the vehicle starts to accelerate.
