Red CAN is missing (CAN_RED_MISSING)

â–¶ How to fix

Check connectors and cable harnesses to ACS node 1, both supply, wake up and CAN connectors (F, A and D connectors, respectively). If the DTC has occurred several times (occurrence counter three (3) or more), pay extra attention to the possibility that there is intermittent contact.

What you'll see

No driver-visible symptom recorded.

System reaction

This DTC will never be active when it is reported. One or more registrations of the DTC will suggest that there is an intermittent fault. When the DTC is active in only one node, the other node will store DTC 0x0006, OtherNodeMissingOnRed, and this is the DTC that will be reported from the system. The ACS malfunction warning will be active and the system will enter limp home mode. If the DTC is active in both nodes simultaneously, this means in all probability that there is a general failure on the red CAN bus. DTCs cannot be read from the ACS, and the ACS is not capable of requesting neither engine torque limitation nor ACS malfunction warning. The system cannot handle both high and low CAN being disconnected at the same time. In case of both high and low CAN being disconnected, the correct error codes will not be formed.

Diagnostic depth

Detection

The DTC shall become active in each node when it has not received any CAN messages from the red CAN bus for 5 seconds. The DTC is not set to active if the diagnostic command “disable normal transmission” is active. The DTC shall become inactive in each node when it receives any message on red CAN.

Possible cause

Short or open circuit on supply or ground to node 1. CAN connector not connected to node 2. Internal ECU failure.
